are the poe sisters still around in your timeline? what were they like when they were alive

earthsong9405:

Nah, they were put to rest after Link released their souls during the events of OoT. Even if they were still around I don’t think I’d have given them that big of a role, but as far as their lives before they became ghosts:

I’d imagine them to be young, probably around Link’s age during OoT, when they died. Since they haunt the Forest Temple I would say that the sisters, as curious children might do, snuck into the temple with the intent on exploring it in hopes of adventure and treasures. But given the horrors the Forest Temple houses, that’s not at all what happened.

The order in which they appear to Link in the game is the order that they died in.

Joelle (the red one and the second youngest) fell first, falling prey to the horde of ReDead on the stairs as the sisters tried to escape them.

Beth (the blue one and the second oldest) was next, overcome by overwhelming guilt for the death of her sister (who perished trying to help her), she had stopped trying to push forward and had given up on trying to find their way out. Her remaining sisters tried to get her to keep moving, but in the midst of it all they didn’t notice a swarm of Skulltula creeping silently from the ceiling. The ambush overtook the sisters with only Meg (the eldest and the purple one) being strong enough to fend the monstrous spiders off. She used the torch she had to beat a few of them to death and it was enough to scare the rest off, but while she was successful in saving Amy (the youngest and the green one), Beth had been eaten alive.

Meg may have been able to rescue Amy from the same fate but only for so long: the child had been bitten several times in the Skulltula’s attempt at a feeding frenzy, and it wouldn’t be long before she succumbed to the poison. Meg tried to keep going, carrying her wounded sister for hours through the temple in search of an exit, a safe haven, somewhere that wasn’t riddled with danger. But no matter how hard she tried, there wasn’t any stopping the inevitable: the venom had finally run its course and Amy died quietly in her sister’s arms.

Alone and beaten, guilt-ridden and tired, Meg left her sister’s body in the silence of the temple as she blindly wandered deeper. She eventually came to a stop in a large room and it is here where she fully gave up trying to find her escape.

This was her fault, it was her idea to explore the temple even after her parents said to never wander so far into the forest, it was her who convinced her sisters to come with her. And now it was her who had led them all to their gruesome deaths… and she is the only one who remained. She should have been first, not them, why was she still here?

Fate remained cruel to the poor girl as she collapsed on the stone floor and sobbed in her loss, in her hopelessness. She remains in the same spot for days, growing dehydrated and starving, and the poor girl begins seeing things. Hearing them. Laughter echoing in the distance, brief flickers of colored lights blinking around her, the sound of footsteps.

Some part of her knows she’s going crazy, but the rest can’t bring her to care anymore. In her final hour she hears not laughter, but words: it’s her sisters, it has to be. They’re calling for her? But where? She can’t get up anymore, can’t move much. It hurts to breath. Hard to see anything now, it’s always so dark, but she swears the lights from before are blinking again. They’re solid now, brilliant in their light, and they hover above her, swaying this way and that as they circle her. They’re warm, it’s been a while since she’s felt warmth, and it’s nice. The flames flicker before the vision of her sisters dance before her eyes, all three unmarred and smiling at her, hands outstretched toward her.

She thought she had cried all her tears away, but one small droplet gently runs down her face as she takes in what she thinks is before her. And with the last ounce of her strength she reaches out weakly toward the image.

Her hand falls midway as her body finally shuts down, and the girl dies in the darkness, cold and alone.
