apologizes for blowing up taxi cabs, tells giant mutant monsters he ‘doesn’t want to be the bad guy’ and picks flowers for girls

so now I’m wondering

is zim sensitive by irken standards

is this what’s considered soft for an irken

the world may never know

I like to think that Zim’s more sensitive behavior is one of the things that sets him apart from the other Irkens. You can’t really blame him for being a nasty little jerk because he was raised to be a ruthless killing machine with no room for feelings like remorse and affection. His whole society revolves around the idea that they are the superior race, and therefore it is their duty to subjugate everything that is deemed inferior. Zim’s mean behavior is the product of being fed this propaganda, combined with years of training to become a hardened soldier. And yet, he still has strong emotional responses to things. No matter how much he tries to fit the mold set by the empire, nothing can extinguish his emotional needs: his need for attention, affection, security, appreciation, companionship, HIS MIGHTY NEED... to feel like he really matters.

I think when he was born Zim was a very sensitive and sweet child who just wanted attention and love (that is why he said he loved the robot arm and huged it and why he was angry when an other smeet got his seat and attention) but he saw through all Irken history and he experienced how the system and other Irkens treat eachother. I think lots of time he got looked down and ridiculed and got the worst equipments because of his smaller hight so he decided that he will show his worth and try to be the best Irken ever. Others didnt care about him so why should he care about them? He will prove them wrong and he will be admired by them.
