harold and george’s experiences of teachers berating and punishing them for drawing comics are based on the creator’s, dav pilkey, own life as a creative child with severe ADHD.

he is now extremely successful in the children’s book industry and still makes new content today! he’s a always been a big inspiration and source of enjoyment for me since i was little, as i always drew in class too. i just want u guys to know that this page isn’t real and is clearly from inside of a captain underpants book. 😅

captain underpants is a super important series for exactly the reason you pointed out! i posted this in the first place because the then-new adult fan community was (and is!) full of neurodivergent people and i knew theyd find it #relatable

turns out it was a little too relatable cus its spread WAY beyond that circle and people keep thinking its a real form! its been weird and kinda worrying, but also it more than proves the point Dav was going for lmao. (he knows about it too btw, i told him on instagram)

its not too often that someone recognizes this as Dav’s work or realizes it’s satire on how neurodivergence is treated in the school system, but whenever someone does it completely makes my day – and you, tumblr user astrofruit, have just made mine.
