Oh sorry can’t wash any of this filth off of my baby he hasn’t consented to being washed.
Tending for and caring for a child is totally different from baptizing them into the Faith when they are ignorant of it. Bad fallacy there LB.
Dedicating your child to the Faith and raising them in the Church and putting them on the path to Jesus so they can willingly proclaim Jesus as their savior when they are of age via public baptizing is 👌👌
A parent’s duty isn’t just to care for the body, but also for the soul. Baptism isn’t just a witness to faith or a statement of accepting Christ as your savior, it is a sacrament that cleanses the soul of original sin and opens us to the grace of God. It is God’s adoption of us. Why would you delay making a child the son or daughter of God until they had achieved the age of reason, having them reach that point without the help that grace can give them? Children can—and do—reject the gifts of baptism if they so choose, after having grown older, but a parent’s God-given authority for the care of their child gives them both the right and the duty to have their infants baptized.
I always thought the reason we baptize babies is to wash them of original sin so that if they died before proper baptism or like in infancy in general they don’t go to hell. And it was done back in the day because children mortality rates were so low and continued today because tradition XD
I could be wrong tho. I grew up Methodist and we don’t baptize our babies we “christen” them which is basically like baptism lite.
but didnt jesus die to absolve humanity of all prior sins including the original sin? why would we have to dunk a baby in water to wash away a sin that should have been wiped away 2020 years ago?
