Excuse me, buit the Defender is a damned near a battle frigate in a one man fighter. It’s got missiles, six fucking canons, a hyperdrive, SHIELDS and is faster and more maneuverable than an X-wing. 

If they had mass produced these things, the rebellion would have been fucking obliterated. 

It IS a super weapon, just not another “Planet cracking laser canon” and would have actually been viable. 

It would have been like building an A-10 warthog during World War one. 

That there’s a next-generation Tie Fighter.

i like the EU configuration:
4 lasers, 2 ion cannons, 3 concussion missiles, 4 proton torpedoes and a tractor beam emitter for some reasons, and as said above shields and hyper drive

And good luck trying to hyperspace ram it!
