Sea Pigs (Scotoplanes) are a type of sea cucumber that live on the seafloor of the abyssal plain. They have a round, pink body with tiny tube feet. They are able to inflate and deflate these feet, as needed. Sea pigs can also “liquify” themselves in order to escape predators, turning into a bag of pudding and guts.  They are deposit feeders, thriving off organic particles in the mud. They live in great packs and are a harmless little species. Deep sea trawling does have a negative impact on their numbers - able to kill 300-600 per trawl.

These are pretty interesting critters, huh?

I was always afraid of touching sea cucumbers while I was in croatia, for some reason I wanted to think they might be venomous. And gross. And this guy just has it in his hand, just like that.
