Joke: Bernie Sanders voted against “good bills” like the one that implemented the AMBER Alert because he’s a bad person who hates children. 

Woke: Bernie Sanders was in FULL SUPPORT of implementing an AMBER Alert system, he voted against the bill because there were unrelated provisions snuck in relating to harsher mandatory minimum sentencing aka the “three strikes law.” At the time, the ACLU and HUNDREDS of legal experts and judges came out against the amendment. 

Congress sneaks in controversial provisions (aka riders) all that time. For example, an upcoming “coronavirus spending bill” will likely have provisions that expands the Patriot Act. Provisions being snuck into huge or seemingly “good bills” is how we also passed anti-environment measures through and allowed for corporations to hide their political activity. Politicians do this specifically to pass “poison legislation” aka shit that people would be freaking outraged about if it was presented on it’s own. 

The three strikes law is a perfect example of this - and either politicians are too lazy to read these bills and see what’s hidden inside them or they’re complicit in passing unfavorable amendments. And idk maybe it’s cool that Bernie doesn’t just vote in favor of a “good bill” when that bill includes shit that literally fucks over everybody esp. when it comes to our civil rights. idk idk
