@xxaeris you misinterpreted what I said, but I understand I sound convoluted and twisted, let me explain, I was saying that they them was used as a general pronoun long before non binary, but I can be wrong in what I know, I don’t know everything and honestly I don’t mind people being non binary, I may just lack understanding, I’m willing to talk about it
xxaeris said:
“they/them was only used for nonbinary people in the 2000s!!!!!” a. wrong, b. undertale was released 2015, well afte you say they/them pronouns were “”“claimed”“” by nonbinary people. just say you hate enbies and go @mrfandomgage

and say that frisk’s pronouns are up for grabs is baffling to me. it’s not right, i don’t stand by it. it’s extremely hurtful to misgender someone even if it’s fiction, it’s important to pay attention or at least research a character before gendering them, that goes for all characters in general regardless. i never have to debate someone over telling someone not to misgender papyrus as “she” now do i? his design is gender neutral -a skeleton after all. but we all know

They/Them was only recently decided to be used for transgender people somewhere in the 2000s, but it’s been used as a singular longer before that. That’s why I say “it’s better fit for undetermined” because that’s how it was used, for people who were undetermined. There is no explicit gender or sex based on they/them, so it is a general and safe term. That’s how I view it, and it’s ok if you don’t see it the same way but with how I speak I use they them for really anyone

while the they/them pronoun can be used to be ambigous, it’s clearly not the case for undertale. monster kid, napstablook, mad dummy (before becoming mad mew mew, MTT also used they/them before becoming MTT) used they/them and most NPCS are not gendered when unnecessary. if toby didn’t want to define any pronouns, he wouldn’t have used they/them then.
frisk’s name reveal is significant to the meta narrative and the game’s story, to ignore the context of that reveal (½)

i know this game better than you, no offense. i’ve been in this fandom for 5 years and went through this discourse plenty of times. that tweet you’re refering to was by a impersonator. if you google the original tweet, you’ll find it’s actually
fvvugradiation
and not the right name/account.

Personally I enjoy the idea that Chara and Frisk are interchangeable and fluid depending on person to person. Please don’t hate me
mrfandomgage said:
Well, in the game I never saw “they them” as a term used for them, and if I missed something or just need another look, well I need another look, but again, Frisk and Chara are still undetermined, mostly because the words “they them” can be used for anyone and is a better fit for anyone with undisclosed gender. Toby Fox himself called Frisk a boy in a post where they were hugging Asriel. I don’t really mind how you drive your ideas and personal beliefs is purely fine

they/them is not a fill in the box pronoun. please stop misgendering them, thank you

do a reprint of the artbook when napstablook is misgendered. after the book came out, he caught the mistake and fixed it and reprinted the book
askfallenroyalty said:
@mrfandomgageβ they are both consistently given they/them pronouns in game. asriel talks about chara in “they/them” terms in the epilogue
frisk is named and given an identity as a person separate from the player in the end of the pacifist route and is still given the they/them pronoun.
they/them is a pronoun respected by the
Merriam-Webster dictionary. toby gives npc characters this pronoun too, even going so far as to… (½)
mrfandomgage said:
It is up to head canon to determine the gender, but using They Them can be used for any general person of undisclosed gender/sex as a one person pronoun. Using they them is safe on general terms.
mrfandomgage said:
False! In the Game they are always addressed as a general noun that can be given to anyone (kid, child, human) and if not the Children are addressed by name, never pronouns
