the more convinced I am that Sans is not, in fact, from the world of Undertale

it may be likely that Gaster is “the man who speaks in hands”

but “the man who came from the other world”

is even more suspicious

Might i also add the gaster follower that has no proper counterpart in undertale but DOES in deltarune? (followers 1 and 2 are greyscale recolours of monster kid and the guy by muffets shop)

Maybe sans was the only one who successfully traveled to the timeline with the underground and the 4 tried going with him got stuck halfway? So not only does he have to cope with knowing that he’ll likely never return home but also that people he was probably associated with are stuck in an eternal limbo.
