Honestly i dont see how people can say yiffy came out of nowhere. She was alluded to in candy chapter 18 and is perfectly on brand for homestuck. Like, its a lot more reasonable than one of the main villains being betty crocker all along. That shit came out of nowhere. My take is that people have put the original homestuck comic on a pedestal for so long that they forgot how weird it was.
