watching butch hartman draw invader zim characters was physically the most painful thing I’ve ever had to endure

i really cannot get over how UNBELIEVABLY SHITTY his drawing is like its not even ORIGINAL IN ANY WAY

literally all he did was REDRAW THE OFFICIAL ART BUT WORSE, like ! could not even be assed to come up with his own pose, or expression, or composition, or ANYTHING.

and he didnt even do a good JOB of copying the official art! his tiny, inconsistent line weights look terrible next to the smooth and thick lines of the official art. he weirdly squished dib’s head in in a way that looks..bad (look at the line coming up from the back of his neck, then the line coming off the top of his ear. why does the back of his neck jut out farther than the back of his head?

the hair isn’t centered on his head, making it look like there’s a shitty wig glued to his cranium, and the shading on it looks like garbage. he added some ? weird lines to the far ends of his glasses? why are there creases there? what?

and going back to the pose- while he totally just ripped off the pose from the already not-especially-dynamic official art, he made the pose so much weaker. not that simple or non-dynamic poses are bad on their own, but that he took a good pose and made it shit. in the original art, there’s a subtle but clear line of action, and the pose looks strong and balanced- it’s nice to look at. dib’s right foot is angled towards the viewer, he’s standing straight up, the pose looks good. on butch’s version, the pose is stilted and weird- both feet are facing to the right at a weird angle, dib looks like he’s..leaning back??

(that color looked a lot better on the ipad. those notes say “why is this bit sticking out??” “what are those??” “?!” and “also the coat looks like shit”)

like, i still can’t get over the fact that he just straight up copied the official art. it’s the kind of thing you’d expect to see on a 13-year-old’s deviantart, whcih would be fine, but this is an Industry Professional whose MADE multiple whole-ass tv shows! he should at least be able to MAKE A POSE UP ON HIS OWN.

also the colors and design on the background look like shit, full stop. a plain white background would be better than whatever the hell that is.
