It needed to be happy because every single episode that came before the ending was CRUSHING.
An amazing, badass, happy ending that the author clearly enjoyed writing will always triumph over a depressing one where the author was far more concerned with sounding smart and intellectual for writing shock value and “adverting expectations.”
