“Life is about pain and by god I will be its conduit” is a raw ass quote if I saw one

sorry if this makes the post less punchy or whatever but I wanna add that while this is true, conservative politics are also built on the idea that one actually can’t earn the right to not suffer. Conservative politics are deeply hierarchical and against mobility even through hard work. For society to be ‘right’, everyone stays in their preordained place… but there is hope you’re really a lion born among lambs and could one day ‘rise to your true place.’ Which won’t happen but is a needed belief because otherwise the despair that “some people are just born to suffer” will overwhelm society.

like if you go to the history of conservative politics you see monarchism apology and stuff, switching the structure of hierarchies from being ordained by god and king, to being ordained by the market and economics. So when conservatives say “you better work for your keep” what they really mean is like, they have already decided what your keep will be.

So when you say “life is all about pain and by god I will be its conduit” you’re right. Prescribing the ‘right’ amount of pain for different people to keep them in their place is what it’s all about. You can ‘earn’ the reward for staying in your place, but that reward is only the “right not to suffer”– where you are on the hierarchy will still determine if that right is violated.
