okay now that i’ve gotten out my obligatory ‘fuck yeah Trump’s gonna be gone’ please remember that while it is amazing that we don’t have to live under Trump anymore:

- Black lives still matter. Systemic racism and police brutality aren’t going to go away because Biden got elected. We gotta keep fighting it.

- The American government is still disenfranchising people of color, trans people, people with disabilities, and many others. Just because Biden has slightly more liberal ideas and policies does not mean that everyone will benefit from his election.

- Roe v. Wade is still in danger. Biden does support reproductive rights, thank god, but he’s not the only one running the government. Amy Coney Barrett is a justice now, don’t forget that.

- Native people are still being ignored, abused, and killed. This isn’t a Trump issue. America was founded on the genocide of indigenous populations and Biden isn’t going to magically fix this.

- Trump wasn’t the problem. He was a symptom of the problem. A lot of white liberals who protested Trump by saying that his America wasn’t ‘their America’ are going to go back to ignoring the issues that have always been present in this country. People elected Trump. People still support Trump and they aren’t going to give up. We can’t afford to choose collective amnesia.

I’m happy and very relieved that Biden won and I’m hopeful that he and Kamala Harris really can improve this country. But if we stop fighting and if we act like Biden is going to suddenly make America into a perfect place for everyone, nothing significant is going to change.
