incomplete list of things i would like to beam into the brains of my fellow online leftists:
-being right does not exempt you from having to make a reasonable, well-structured argument for your position
-if you cite an exact statistic provide a source, and if you can’t don’t cite the statistic
-exaggerating or otherwise using rhetorical flourishes that aren’t backed up by the facts of the situation may sound nice but they still hurt your credibility with anyone outside of your ingroup
-you should actually be trying to appeal to people outside of your ingroup
-the bit about statistics applies double if you'e talking about shit involving groups you'e not a member of; you wanna shoot yourself in the foot by pissing away your own group’s long-term credibility in exchange for short-term outrage, that’s one thing; pissing away someone else’s? That’s something else.
