Sun Wukong is known as Son Gokū in Japanese, and Goku from Dragon Ball, known in Japan as Son Goku, is a very explicit allegory to Journey to the West. According to The Goddess in India: The Five Faces of the Eternal Feminine By Devdutt Pattanaik, Hanuman, known for his celibacy and martial prowess, was worshiped as a patron deity for wrestlers and other martial artists who believed that they could achieve superhuman strength through celibacy.
