wow funny how white house aides and cabinet members are capable of resigning and speaking against tr*mp now that they're all going to be unemployed in two weeks anyway and have nothing to lose
so very convenient to suddenly develop "morals" after four years just so you can be absolved in the court of public opinion and while he and his family go back to their gaudy penthouse and suffer no consequences other than MAYBE an exile from politics at the most you get to stroll right back into DC with a clean reputation and denounce him as if you weren't standing beside him cheering him on the whole way
I mean they’re also doing it to get out of participating in any 25th Amendment action that might happen. Section 4 allows the VP and certain cabinet members to declare a president unfit and strip him of power. As of today (January 8), 5 of those 15 cabinet positions are vacant, and I would expect to see more resignations, especially if the talk about invoking the 25th Amendment gains momentum.
This is an act of cowardice. These people are getting out at the last minute, because there’s a chance that they would have to officially pick a side, and they don’t want to.
I’m going to talk about Betsy DeVos (because I’m from west Michigan) for a minute. Her family and her husband’s family are rich (obviously) and well connected (obviously) and donated heavily to the Tr*mp campaign. At some point (I can’t remember if it was before or after the 2016 election), one of them made a comment about how they were going to get something in return for their money, like it was an investment rather then a donation, basically. And wow Betsy got herself a cabinet position. So. I guess if someone sells you a cabinet position, you’re not supposed to vote against him, but also it’d be super awkward if you didn’t vote against him. Better to just resign.
