20 Interesting Historical Photos (part 1)
can we get the perfume machine back pls
Perfume machine’s still exist in some trucker stops, fun fact.
Miss New Zealand is dead on the ground and Miss Cuba is looking at her like, “stay down, bitch.”
Romania, respectfully, what the actual fuck.
As a Romanian, just let me say. We were apparently completely apeshit about bears?
I don’t really get it, but we were huge fans of bears back in the day. I guess that’s just how it was before the TV got invented, idk.
The gentleman holding the bear’s harness in the photo was likely an ursar. The ursari were a nomadic Roma clan whose entire occupation was bear training, and they used to make all their income from fairs where they had bears do tricks, or just travel from village to village doing weird stuff like offering bear massages, or making bears dance (notice the tambourine in the man’s hand).
(Just to clarify for those not already aware, Romanian and Roma are two completely different ethnic groups with distinct histories, but in this context, the Roma ursari performed for a largely Romanian audience.)
Obviously these kind of acts aren’t commonplace nowadays, because… well, because horrific animal abuse. But the ursari are still around, as a subgroup of the Roma people.
And that is what the actual fuck.
