you could write a whole thesis on Supernatural and Sherlock and parts of Moffat-era Dr Who & the bizarre ego resentment these cishet white male creators have for their fan base
There’s a repeated refusal to wrap up long-set-up plot threads, open & consistent mocking of fans in the universe of the TV show, blatantly drawing in large numbers of viewers & then abandoning the things that made them like the show. And I really can only read this as a resentment for the fan base & a sense that you’re above them, above TV writing, that your interests are what really matters, & a frustration that you got a female & lgbt fan base instead of the white male audience you were aiming for.
Not to mention tanking your franchise and abandoning consistent character arcs and plotlines that make sense for the sake of yelling “SURPRISE” in the audience’s face
“Don’t you see? It must be good because we sUbVErtEd ExpEcTAtiOnS! The only important thing about a plot arc is that viewers don’t see it coming, so we can pat ourselves on the back for surprising them! We are very intelligent”
