Can’t properly explain it, but “I like this character”, “I like how this character is written” and “I care about this character” are 3 very different things which may or may not overlap.
I like this character: You enjoy the characters purpose in the plot
I like how this character is written: you enjoy the characters personality
I care for this character: you dont neccessarily have to like this character but you do empathize with their struggles
