wish i could talk about how true crime ultimately harms people w psychosis and schizospec disorders more than its worth (encouraging people to think crime & murder specifically must be caused by mental illness, and how "fascinating" that is) but ik people would get on my ass about it

going to regret adding to this but here we go. tldr; true crime, more specifically shows surrounding true crime, are *incredibly* fetishistic towards us. we're their default explanation for horrible disgusting peoples thought process. "they mustve been schizophrenic," "only a psychopath couldve done something as horrid as this," "a classic sociopath," etc. this, in turn, makes the unpsychotic fans think of us as nothing more than a case study, whether theyre aware or not. then these same, uncritical people, go into the psychology field. do you see the problem with that?
