I think it would be very funny for like characters in a fantasy setting to walk into a pub and try to order and the bartender sighs and goes "species and age?" While pulling out a massive book holding the drinking age for every type of species capable of purchasing alcohol
one of my dms did a homebrew setting once, and the orcs in it saw your first kill as reaching adulthood, and I'm now envisioning my asocial warlock orc trying to convince a bartender that he's totally definitely already killed something. he has not, he's just a nerd that likes dragons.
I like that this seems to be a universal in D&D groups. Mine had elves apply their own maturity standards to the other races making it impossible for anyone but the decrepit wizard to get a drink in eleven settlements.
that's actually incredible omg
