de beers campaigned hard to spread propaganda to make people think that lab grown diamonds were lesser than natural diamons so that they wouldnt lose the money they get by selling their natural diamonds mined by slaves. basically they built their company on making society overvalue diamonds and now that diamonds are cheap as fuck theyre trying to find any way to make theirs maintain their overvalued nature.
