all i’m saying is when did we last have a game with the cultural staying power of Portal 2 (2011)

Minecraft.

chefpyro

Minecraft was playable in early access from 2009 and the full release was in the same year as Portal 2

undertale?

chefpyro

Undertale is up there I’ll admit but seeing as that was an indie game that kinda serves my general point of the larger gaming industry mostly phoning it in

chefpyro

People have been suggesting games like Dark Souls and Skyrim. And I agree! Those had a huge cultural impact and are still remembered very well.

But those were… also… from 2011…

Not to be an obnoxious Nintendo weirdo but I think really the biggest game would be breath of the wild? Think of how many open world games, even if they take after the Ubisoft model, are now just called breath of the wild clones. Even if that title isn’t deserved.

chefpyro

Honestly you’re not wrong but also it’s funny because yeah Breath of the Wild was totally inspired by Skyrim and other pre-existing open world games

It’s definitely gonna have more staying power than any other Zelda game other than maybe Ocarina but I wonder if it’ll still be more than a footnote 5 years from now

with BOTW 2 on the horizon, botw 1 is pretty much a footnote. the only reason its got staying power is due to new glitches and new easter eggs or oddities having been found but theres been significantly less trickle of that lately. soon everything that can be found will be found and the new hotness will be BOTW 2
