apparently people have been dumping goldfish that they no longer want into a lake near minneapolis and now there are giant monster goldfish roaming the waters
chunky little man. unnatural creature.
Don’t make this seem alright. Their waste damages the ecosystem enough alone not accounting for the fact they aren’t supposed to be fucking in the wild. They’re not made to be wild. HENCE WHY THREY TURN INTO FUCKIN MONSTERS. They fucking kill off all food sources damn quick and breed like rabbits. Fucking don’t “"release”“ fish.
You can legally kill them and I’d honestly recommend it. I hate hurting fish personally but it’s FOR THE BETTER
Goldfish people are nuts, and I say this as a fish person. I guarantee if you hit up goldfish forums you’ll find someone to take your fish
Do goldfish taste good?
They’re carp so I think it depends what they eat?
Also, to be clear:
Goldfish will grow to fit the size of their enclosure.
Yes, this is real. That dude’s name is Edward Nino Hernandez and the fish weighed almost as much as he did.
Imagine what an animal this size could do to a small lake.
Now realize that they can breed.
You see the problem here, right?
Please, DON’T RELEASE YOUR FISH!
Goldfish are also literally just carp with a funky color so in the wild it only takes a couple generations to revert to the normal brown which makes it IMPOSSIBLE to find them.
Wonder how big they would get if they were released into the ocean
They would die?
The ocean and lakes are in fact different types of water and fish from one usually cant breath the other

I hate that “goldfish grow to the size of their enclosure” line. Goldfish don’t just hit and certain size and decide “yep, that’s big enough”, they are Very Big Fish. They don’t really stop growing. If you keep them in a small enclosure and they stay small you either a. found a small breed or b. have stunted its growth in a negative way. Recommended tank size for goldfish is like 55 gallons minimum and they’re garbage factories so get some damn good filters in there.

@petrichoronafox it’s an oversimplification, goldfish ARE carp but they’ve been bred by humans for… centuries, honestly, so they’re not like any old carp. Dumping them in any random lake is introducing a lot of different genetics and diseases to that ecosystem and can fuck things up super fast. In addition to them eating EVERYTHING they can fit in their mouths (and some stuff they can’t). Don’t release fish just like you wouldn’t release any other domestic pet. hestiacocoa reblogged this from dreamingmirrors
