I’d like to formally introduce Bruce Koopa and Coco Koopa, the parents of Bowser and Bowsette!

Coco Koopa is very much into fashion and struck up her own line while still queen. The moment she (eagerly) stepped away officially from that responsibility, she dove even deeper into the fashion industry. She’s the type to produce super tacky clothing that only vain rich people buy, not with the idea of looking good, but with the idea of making a status statement.

Bruce Koopa is a music snob, the type to think only classical music is real music, and really enjoys playing piano. Like his wife, the moment he (just as eagerly) officially dropped his title as King onto his son, he pursued a career in music development. Only he no longer actually makes the music and instead works as a contracting entity. He likes to say “oh darlin’, I bring glory to musicians. And I can just as easily steal it away.” He’s actually where Bowsette initially found her love for music and, in the scant few times he’s shown to have some semblance of care for his kid, played his piano for her. Now all he does is berate Bowsette for her “gaudy music taste” and bugs her about signing with him instead of pursuing her “frivolous rock fantasy.”

So as you’d imagine, their relationship with their children is…. rocky at best, nonexistent at most. While not abusive in any physical way, Bruce and Coco were pretty negligent with both children and kingdom. They’d often disappear with no word of where they were going to mingle with other high-power folk and party, and wouldn’t return for days on end. Impromptu vacations, constant misuse of the kingdom treasury, and casual neglect to their responsibilities as monarchs and parents. This is why Kamek stepped up to fill both roles as best he could.

Fun facts!

- Bowser never calls them “mom and dad”. Hell he struggles to even refer to them as “mother and father”. He mostly calls them by their first names and when they whine and pester him about it will switch to “mother/father”, if only to get them to shut up.

-Bruce will never admit it, but he is absolutely jealous of the fact that Bowser and Bowsette calls Kamek their ba, but never him.

-Unlike Bowser who is 100% done with Bruce and Coco, Bowsette wishes to have some semblance of relationship with them despite everything. But gods is it hard when they refuse to compromise.

-Bruce and Coco are… doting grandparents? As doting as they can get anyway. They frequently ask to spend time with the Koopalings and Jr, spoiling them rotten and buying them whatever they want. Bowser is always hard-pressed to let the folks spend more than a day or two with them because quite frankly they’re terrible influences, but they behave themselves when spending time with the kids. Maybe it’s them trying to compensate for something.
