I sell seashells on your seashore.
am i insane or are people not getting the point of this comic? everyone is sayin this is wholesome, but the point seems to be very antiwork (based) and saying that even a “nice” boss at a job u enjoy is robbing you of valuable time. why are people in the notes saying this is cute?
I don’t normally respond to stuff on this webbed site, but it seems like it is you that is missing the point of the comic. This isn’t “antiwork”, Nook is saying that work is any task that needs completing. Work is good, its when we’re expected to toil and suffer for it that its seen as bad. CODEC collecting flowers and seashells to sell is work, but they enjoy it. Part of being human is doing work. Not just the capatalist explotation kind of work, but just…work. It takes work to make art, to cook, to be human.
Majority of us that play animal crossing put a lot of damn work into it, but enjoy it fully. And that is what work should be, something we want to do and are also very handsomely rewarded for doing. The problem is you’re taking this as a direct translation to bosses, which is only part of a problem in our jobs. The big problem is a job robs you of time because of how deeply corrupted our system is. Because you’re expected to toil forty hours a week to just survive. And you get scraps in return for that time you’ll never get back. And most jobs we take and toil in aren’t fulfilling and meaningful or things we want to do.
Nook reminding us that work isn’t this negative thing is wholesome. Reminding us that it can be better. I also like seeing Nook in a more positive light cause he’s always given grief for the crime of *checks notes* giving you a home without expectation of paying back the debt unless you want to upgrade.
just because its something you wanted to do doesnt mean its not work
