There's a very frustrating trend online of "media studies = fandom = cringey" that manifests in people saying the most asinine horseshit on every single post I make on the topic, and it's making me want to scream. I don't care if you think what I'm doing is worthless, you don't have to be so fucking mean.

If I talk about anything related to anything owned by Disney, I get "ugh, stupid Disney adult" comments. If I talk about family and children's media, I get, "ugh, go watch real shows for grown-ups" comments. If I talk about engaging with problematic media, I get "ugh, how can you support this, you must be a shitty person" comments. If I talk about the Hays Code, I get literal fucking censorship advocates in my notes talking about how the Hays Code was a good thing, actually, because people can't be trusted not to get corrupted by Immoral Media.

You got me, y'all! Media studies is bullshit, I'm wasting my life, and Will Hays was right! Obviously none of this matters and I just read too much into everything! Art is worthless, film and television is just brain-rotting nonsense, and the entire academic field of media studies is actually just fandom dumb-dumbs being cringey! Wow, I can't believe you figured it out! The curtains really were just blue!

I don't understand how these people live. It sounds about as much fun as being Baptist.
