When you go to a haunted house, it may seem like you’re being funny by trying to scare the actors or jump out at them when you go through a second time, but guess what? ITS NOT FUNNY.

You pay us to scare you. It is your choice to go, so don’t fucking go through if you’re going to ignore the rules and get too close to the actors as a ‘joke’.

These bruises happened because over the course of 4 hours, several people ignored the instructions that CLEARLY stated that they were to wait in the front room until told otherwise. Rather than listen, they ran into the next room and slammed into me- effectively throwing me into the wall. This didn’t only happen once. It happened ten times at LEAST.

Then we had this asshole who thought that once I ‘died’ for the haunt, he could pretend to kick me to see if I’d moved. I, being used to people abusing me- jumped back and slammed my head into the concrete wall.

YOU ARE NOT FUNNY BY BEING RUDE AT A HAUNTED HOUSE. WE ARE PAID ACTORS THAT YOU CHOOSE TO COME AND SEE PERFORM. YOU PAY US TO SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU, SO DONT HIT US WHEN WE DO

I feel that this is relevant considering it is October and more Haunted Houses are opening up. I know it seems funny to scare the ‘monsters’ but all you do is hurt real people. So stop.

It’s not even October but I’m still spreading this

Been working in the haunt industry for 10+ years now.

Every year there is always going to be at least one person who thinks its funny or okay to assault haunted house workers.

There’s always at least one person who reacts in anger to being scared, and chooses to act violently.

Us actors chose to put in time and effort to dress up in costume, make up and run around for hours on end late into the night just to entertain and scare you. You may only be in and out of a haunt in an hour or so but the actors you see have been working their butts off for hours on end. When you chose not to follow the rules, you are putting our safety and well being on the line.

You wouldn’t go a theatre performance and start heckling the performers and you certainly wouldn’t run up on stage and assault them.

A haunted house is a more immersive theatrical performance.

Keep your hands to yourself. If you’re the type who just reflexively swats at things when startled, keep your hands in your pocket.

If you find it funny to scare people just trying to do their job, A: stop being an asshole. You paid us to scare you, let us do our job and have fun being scared. and B: If scaring people is that appealing to you.. apply to work at the haunt instead. Cause you are right, it IS fun to scare people. That’s why people WORK at Haunted houses. You know whats not fun? Someone coming into your place of work, making an ass out of themselves so they can scare their friends. All this does is disrupt the scene, endanger the actors working, and ruin the experience YOU paid for.

tl;dr Follow the rules of haunted houses and keep your hands to yourself.
