Silver Tongue
I would like to point out "Because it's my character" takes away the fact that it is a character. The character loses their individuality and in a way 'themselves' so they can by "Yours." They no longer are a character, but something you're controlling. It's not the character making the choices, but you.

Yes this too! If you’re the one making the choices and not the character making the choices themselves, then the character will never grow.

See, there’s a reason that writers will refer to their characters as real people. It’s because they become real the more you develop them. It’s a cool feeling that you miss out on if you don’t put proper thought into your characters.

JK Rowling never went “Harry Potter is going to be a good flier because he’s my character and I say so.” She went “He’s going to become a good flier because that’s what he’s leaning towards.”

Rick riordan wasn’t like “Percy wasn’t the son of a major god and part of a prophecy because he is my character and I say so” It’s more like “Percy wasn’t the son of a major god and part of a prophecy because Poseidon couldn’t keep his dick in his pants despite the pact he and his brothers made.”
