You know…. Despite my reputation I was actually looking for a real answer. But these 3 answers seemed too clever to ignore, so fuck it! All 3 of you win!

Energy is mass multiplied by (the speed of light sqared.)
During fission, an atom is split into two smaller elements but the mass of the two new elements combined is less than the mass of the original element. The missing mass was converted into energy and the equation iis used to find ou how much energy was released or how much mass was lost depending on the variables given.
