I got some decent pics of all four chest holes. So I will tell their story and recap how cray cray the last week has been.
It started out with me going into the ER because my chest hurt the day before. I was diagnosed with spontaneous pneumo thorax (sudden lung collapse) a full 30 hours after it happened..
The first one (the smallest one towards the top) was for a tube to suck out the air in my chest cavity. I soon went into tension after getting it and my right lung began torsion (twisting or something) and it put pressure on my heart and left lung. They fixed that right away.
My Xrays looked good after that but I was still transferred to another hospital due to my lung going into tension because if it happened again, I would definitely need the surgery. My O2 and breathing seemed good and everything seemed fine and dandy though so they removed the tube a couple days later… Then my lung collapsed 30-40% after three hours, around 8 or so. and the nurses wouldn’t take me and my dad ) he had this kind of thing happen to him eight times before) and he “requested” that they take me to get an immediate xray. despite me being scheduled for one in at six. It wasn’t until Midnight that I got the requested xray. I could see it was bad.
Then I was woken up at Six and they had a portable xray and looked at it. THEN JUST TWO HOURS LATER the people finally paged my doctor. No, it’s fine, just wait a almost 10 hours to tell a doc that his patient who came in with a collapsed lung and had went into tension just a few days earlier that id having a hard time breathing. It’s not like this kind of thing can kill someone through the night or anything if it goes unchecked.
So I was scheduled for surgery in three hours. That’s pretty quick considering they were ready to send me home if the xrays had come back clean.
So I don’t remember what happened next but I DO have a general idea of what the surgery would be like. The VATS (Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery) was basically, they cut a hole in my chest and stick a camera in it. Then they rough up the wall of my chest cavity until it bleeds so they use the healing properties of blood to adhere the lung to teh chest wall.. Then, they use an aerosol talc…..
That’s the last thing I can remember the doc saying. When I woke up, I had a new IV, two new bandaged holes and one with a thick tube in it. My mom has a video of me singing double vision by foreigner. Next, I spent two days draining fluids and letting it heal.
Then, today, I got the big tube removed and headed home with my mum. Let me tell you, the big tube made burping and coughing hurt a lot so after getting it removed, I went into a coughing fit to clear out the gunk that accumulated in the deep of my throat. Now I lay here in my mums house on her laptop and I am breathing well.
This picture was taken right after I got out of the shower do my hair is still wet and sexy. Also, the pain killers make it hard to focus my eyes adn this was riddled with typos. Thank you, program that lets me know whenever there’s a spelling error!
