It would not work, he taped it to the cats back. The butter and the cats paws would both land on the ground (possibly injuring the cat) and then you would have a big mess. What you would want to do is tape it to the cats belly with the butter up against its fur. This would cause the perpetual motion and create energy. Alternatively, you could just get two pieces of buttered toast and tape them to each other.
