Capone prided himself as a man with style. If he ever killed someone himself, or one of his henchmen killed an important person, hundreds of dollars worth of flowers was sent to the funeral. In one fight between Capone’s men and another gang, an innocent woman was shot, not fatally, and required hospital treatment. Capone personally paid for all the hospital fees. He also would pay for all children’s hospital bills when he visited.
true gangsters
Not to romanticize gang violence, but why are old time street gangsters more honorable than the current shitty politicians and capitalists of this country?
that is an alarmingly accurate point you’ve just made.
Also what the hell happened to the classy act? The “gangsters” now are now way in comparison close to like the old time true gangsters. When John Dillinger robbed a bank and if he saw someone about to deposit their money he would tell them to keep it and take out their money.
I miss the old timey gangsters. They were crude, scary and some of them were even completely insane. But you know something really weird? Those poor and middle class people scraping by with their dead end jobs. Gangsters actually gave those people hope. They were celebrities. Almost no politician today and certainly no gangster gang-banger today can achieve that level of public praise (and fear) that people like Capone, Luciano, Siegel, or Gotti could. Sad and strange, really.
I really wish people in general these days were more polite.
Old timey gangsters were actually pretty polite and they were real gentlemen. Not the kind that fake politeness to get in someones pants. People these days only do crap for self gain and while old time gangsters did do crap for self gain, they didn’t need to be classy. That part was purely optional and didn’t effect how much they would gain or lose.
