Other anon is an idiot. Just because they're not cis and white doesn't mean somebody is in the right to take somebody else's characters from them. Nobody would take me seriously if I said I was Obama Kin. Or Asian Kin. Or Mexican Kin. It's the same with the intelluctual property rights of others. Yes, you can feel a connection to the struggles or a character's personality. But that doesn't mean you are that character or suddenly have more right to it than the person who made them.

well, when it comes to dead people, it isn’t as much of a big deal since reincarnation is a thing. It’s mostly fictionkin that grind my gears, and even then it’s only the ones who claim kin with other peopels OCs or claim that a character canonically does whatever because they claim kin with a character and they do whatever.

Basically claiming that you’re someone elses character is fucking gross. First off, you probably don’t even know that characters full story, only the creator does. Second off you don’t know why the character was made. I’ve seen people yell at a creator for asking them not to kin with a character who was based off of the creators halucination

well jsut telling them isn’t going to work because the writers of the fuckign show have said it many times and it hasn’t worked. THe only way to make it work is to participate in the drama and be civil about it. stay calm and stick to facts and call out every bit of bullshit the bad fans do.
you can still like a series without associating with a fandom, like how a lot of fans of mlp refuse to be called bronies. a lot of the Bad Fans(tm) are young teens and are still learning, unfortunately this website gives them a platform to publicly harass people and get other people too as well. ignore the fandom and the series will become more enjoyable

considering there’s no term for a steven universe fan other than a steven universe fan, I don’t think that is applicable. the only way to not associate myself with the fandom would be to stop participating in theories and fanart and just watch it as is and as someoen who loves theories and making fanart, that sounds boring to me. Also, doing that would be a variation of the no true scottsman fallacy. I’m not going to deny the fact that I am a fan of the show and participate in making fanworks and ignoring the bad of the fandom doesn’t work, trust me. It just makes the fandom as a whole seem worse because denying that these things are happening within the group seems like it’s condoning their actions. I do not under any circumstance condone harassment so I will not ignore it or act like it doesn’t happen.

they ruined a small business which happened to share the same name as one of the businesses in the show by leaving fake reviews in reference to the show
barred the brony fandom from “joining” because they thought it would “taint” their fandom with porn (despite the fact there’s been porn since gem glow because that’s why it’s one of the rules of the internet)
they harassed people to near suicide because of fucking headcanons on three separate occasions. (one time was because an artist drew rose skinny, one was because they drew one character as human and didn’t make her black and one was because they shipped pearl and mayor dewey)
they harass cosplayers who don’t have “the right body type” or “the right skin tone”
they frequently harass the writers because the writers call the bad fans out and say that people are free to have their own headcanons and interpretations and that people are free to cosplay whatever they want.
they accused rebecca sugar of being racist because bismuth
and most recently they harassed one of the story board artists off of twitter because she says people are free to ship whatever they want.
