that specific situation was just an example that I’ve seen happen. It doesn’t mean it’s isolated. If you read the first post you will see that I stated that any character made as a coping mechanism, whether it be mental illness or trauma, is off limits. Then that person threw a fit and I explained the situation which made me point out that there ARE toxic people within the otherkin community.
They got all bitchy before I even mentioned any specific mental illness.
they were just trying to say that a few people claiming to be kin with coping characters should not apply to the whole group of people. that's a more specific situation which doesn't make otherkinity in itself bad. i think that just arose from you saying "the otherkin one is iffy". the wording kinda sounded like you were blaming the group is all

That’s called the scotsmans fallacy. You know, the whole argument of “Oh, people who do X aren’t real Y” and it distances yourself from the problem if you are in the group rather than acknowledge that there are people who do that in within your group and come up with a way to fix it.
When you distance yourself like that you’re allowing them to do shit. You need to hold them accountable for their actions rather than distance yourself away.
Also, if I wanted to condemn all otherkin I would have said all “otherkin are toxic” rather than explain that there are a few who are toxic.
