Considering it was satan who gave humans free will and independent thought (Though they were set up by god to fail in the first place) and god will punish anyone for not believing in him but will forgive everything else, who is the real asshole?

Satanism is about self-preservation and respect. Their churches are more accepting and open with respect to morality than Christian churches. Kind of ironic.
laveyan satanism sees god and satan as more of a symbol rather than actual beings and is about glorifying oneself and basically being responsible for what you do. You are your own person. You choose your own path. You are responsible for your own fate and your own actions.
