You know, I’ve always been really confused about what the initial point of Rose Quartz’s were to Pink Diamond/Homeworld. Because, really, if the plan for earth was this:
then what is the point of having a gem who has the ability to create life the way Rose is shown to be able to do? And if every other Quartz type we see is built like a freaking body builder (with the exception of the gems from the Beta kindergarten we see in That Will Be All, but according to Peridot nearly all of the gems there “came out wrong” so…) and have weapons that can be used offensively:
then why have this single type of Quartz who looks soft and approachable and give them a shield as a weapon? Then this bomb came along and…I noticed a couple of things about that zoo. The first thing was these flowers on the door.
Five petalled flowers with what looks like the centre of Rose’s gem upside down in the middle. Does that look familiar? How about now.
These look startlingly similar to the flowers Rose grows on earth. On top of this, we have the room where Yellow and Blue Diamond discuss Pink Diamond’s death. When I watched this I couldn’t help but think it was strange that all of the Rose Quartz’s were here for some reason.
Like, if this room was Pink Diamond’s version of the temple, why are there no other gem types anywhere? Surely she didn’t only bubble Rose Quartz’s in her time alive. And if they were put here…in memory of Pink Diamond or something then someone would’ve had to take the time to move all of these bubble gems to this location.
Unless, they were already there.
Unless, the zoo is where Rose Quartz’s used to work.
The zoo is meant to be calming to humans. A place where they live a life of complacency and safety. Would it not make sense that the gems working there would be approachable to humans should they ever need to go into the enclosure? Would it not make sense that they would be able to grow new wildlife should something happen to the ecosystem in the enclosure? Rose Quartz’s would make the perfect guards for such a place.
At least until one of them decided she liked humans a little too much and didn’t want the planet they came from to be destroyed.
So Gems come out knowing what their purpose is. If rose was meant to be a zookeeper, then her purpose would be to keep the humans alive. And she did just that. The rebellion, the saving of the earth? What if that was all to fulfill her purpose of keeping humans alive.
Peridot has extra in her name because she is in a sub vein where as our amathyst’s kindergarten is no where near as eaten up as homeworld projections are.
Very interesting.
Now I wonder if our Jasper – or any Beta Quartz, in fact – actually has a proper designation. After all, since the injectors were just thrown down anywhere, then there would be no way to properly designate them.
My guess is they’d have their Facet but not a cut, if we’re going by Prime as how a good Kindergarten should be set up, especially with Peridot’s emphasis on “even spacing, consistent depth”. Because while the line ups aren’t completely perfect, Prime is clearly leveled by both columns and rows. Hence Amethyst is from column 8, row M.
But Beta doesn’t really have such clearly defined distinctions, due to both the geography and the fact that it was a rush job:
So idk if the Beta Quartzes could have full designations like everyone else, other than Jasper Facet-9 or Carnelian Facet-9, etc. Maybe that’s part of why Skinny says the Amethysts are so cliquey. I imagine tho that the Betas have a method of telling each other apart when they call for one another so they don’t all answer to the same name (I mean Carnelian probably has it easy, but there’s like six Jaspers now), but it might be unique to them.
Only tangentially related, but I’m only just now being struck by the clean, polished outline of Jasper’s hole, not just in comparison to the holes in Beta, but Prime as well.
I used to see Prime as very cold and precise, with their neat little columns and uniform holes. But on second look, the holes in prime aren’t uniform at all. Yes, there’s an overall consistency to their size, but each one has its own shape, it’s own thumbprint. They’re not as wildly varied as Beta, but not one of those holes is a perfect outline, the ideal “clean, strong silhouette.”
But the hole that Jasper left behind is almost haunting in its perfection. Even with the somewhat ridiculous and yet entirely awesome “I WOKE UP THIS WAY!” power pose, her silhouette is symmetric and clean. It’s mathematical perfection, the ideal realized.
Okay man, I hope we get to see an Amethyst uprising in the future, since these guys deserve a break after dealing with Holly Blue all the time. And that whole scene with the Famethyst was funny as heck!
