exclusionary tactics/rhetorics
- claiming a group isn’t oppressed because another group have issues that this group does not have
- ignore the needs of the group, erases history and refuse to acknowledge their struggles
- sabotage the image of the group, painting them as invaders, as leeches
- mislabelling the group as oppressors
- describing identities as arbitrary and not relevant to social classes
- claiming the group is appropriating the struggles of a similar group, or the community they wish to join
- claiming this group is not real, and just oppressors trying to identify out of their privilege
- literally painting the marginalised group as worse than their actual oppressors
- holding the group at higher standards to claim they are too bigoted or violent to be welcomed
- using a small number of people to justify not standing for their rights
- and talking about the identity as a beehive mind and a movement
i am still quite surprised at how universal this list is.. like i had a few very specific groups in mind but.. really.. this is all so reoccurring, it is all incredibly common, and a very dangerous mindset that manifests in many different kinds of ideologies.. and i feel we just in general need to see right through whatever they brand it as.. and acknowledge that gatekeeping and silencing minorities is in general quite common, and quite dangerous… and it can often even be done by other people whom are also marginalised.
