Or bismuth didn’t care, she would kill anyone from homeworld, civilian or soldier. Bismuth was a zealot. The fact of the matter is that she attacked civilians and created an unethical weapon.
I don’t think she knew Lapis was a civilian. Lapis WAS from Homeworld and was apparently in the warzone by accident so Bismuth probably just assumed she was a solider
well, by the ways she speaks it sounds more like she doesn’t care. Lapis was from homeworld to help the colony for whatever reason, not to fight the war so she was a civilian. hell, she would probably poof her again if given the chance. Bismuth is very anti homeworld

honestly bismuth is such a wonderful character
i mean she’s so. shes so kind and insightful and powerful and just. all that stuff she said to steven about being better than what others expect u to be was so quintisentially a crystal gem idea, it was so exactly what he needed, it was so exactly what rose faught for. u can see why she’d be one of rose’s closest friends, but at the same time she goes way too far w her zealous pursuit of justice
“nobody is more crystal gem than me” and “rose changed my life,” like. imagine being in that position, where the person who you looked up to like that treated you like an enemy. like you had betrayed the cause you dedicated your life to fight for
imagine being bismuth and creating this weapon that you think is going to set gems free, and then rose quartz telling you that its not the way of a crystal gem.
bismuth obviously prides herself on fighting for freedom and being a crystal gem to an extreme degree, and then was shot down by the person who founded the crystal gems. steven said something like, it makes us no better than them, and like. imagine being bismuth and being compared to homeworld
like god u can see. EXACTLY where she went too far, but u can also see why and u can also see how what rose did could have just. destroyed her. she begged steven to shatter her
she obviously loved the crystal gems so much. she would have done anything for them, until she did too much

Everyone on the show except garnet has had their moments where their emotions have made them do something bad. i don’t see why people are clinging onto bismuth. Remember when amethyst beat the shit out of steven to prove a point? or kidnap steven and take him to a wasteland? or that time pearl manipulated garnet? or that time pearl almost got steven killed? or that time pearl kidnapped steven to take him to space? or those many times peridot tried to kill the gems? or that time peridot sold them out to yellow diamond? Or that time greg faked an injury so steven would be there to take care of him? or that time jasper kidnapped corrupted gems?
It makes me feel conflicted. By all accounts, bismuth was correct and that weapon could have been a turning point in the war, saving everyone and you can’t even use the “but at what cost” argument because the cost probably wouldn’t have been as bad as the diamonds song, which forced all gems on earth sans roses posse into a fate worse than death.
I have no reason to disagree with bismuth. I have no good reason to disagree with her. And that makes me feel queasy. And that is why I like the show. Because it’s not all black and white, but various shades of grey.
