Ruby’s Expressions Appreciation Post
on pearl’s defectiveness

i’m pretty sure pearl’s defectiveness is the fact she is able to feel any emotions at all. i believe pearls are designed to be cold and calculating, elegant and effective workers. and somehow this pearl came out feeling things - or even learned how to feel things when in contact with rose, who is sweet and cries and cares about everything.

that would explain why she doesn’t have the best interpersonal relationships (to say the least): perhaps empathy doesn’t come naturally to her and she doesn’t fully understand how emotions work.

this would also explain how jasper even knew about her defectiveness: unless it was a drastic physical change that could be noticed at first glance (and then what could it be? it would be something that is considered a flaw, and she looks fine) then it has to be something in her personality. and that also isn’t something that can be noticed on sight, BUT! if pearls were meant to be essentially robots, and this one left her stations to fight for the rebellion because she fell in love, then news of that would certainly get around.

maybe the way holo pearls act isn’t even just because it’s a training hologram- but because that is how regular pearls are.

Perfect pearls are perfectly round but her gem is more oval. That could be a reference to her defectiveness

July 13 was a tough day.

garnet was about to beat her ass though like holy shit she was not playing around i actually thought pearl was gonna get poofed for a hot second

Garnet was rightfully pissed. She IS a fusion. A fusion of love. To see one of her closest and most trusted friends USE her for fusion is very emotional. You saw her reaction to forced fusions. She regards fusion as something important.

well there was that rpg for the mobile devices, I hear that was good

It was but it was also short. I’m talking about an actual game. Platinum makes games like wonderful 101 and bayonetta and would be perfect for a steven universe game

It’s never been more clear than with sardonyx

If there’s ever a steven universe game, Platinum should make it.

Jasper: Piccolo Mom

I don’t know when I realized I hated this comic but it was probably after the first EIGHT HOURS

OHHH! I’d love to think if Jasper ever joins the team, she’d be surprised on how Steven was never officially trained at all yet with his shield. She did say herself why “Rose” looked so weak when first meeting him! AHH imagine episodes with Jasper just training him with the other gems arguing it’s too much for him!

I like to think that yellow diamond would send forces to obliterate earth and all the gems on it including peridot and jasper and that’s what would lead them to work with the crystal gems.

It’s you and me, Pearl. Let’s fuse.

You really have to look at this from Garnet’s perspective

fairymascot:

lennythereviewer:

Fusion is very important to her

Fusion IS EVERYTHING to her

It’s what she IS

If the lyrics of the extended theme song are anything to go by, back home fusion is looked down on. On Earth she’s free to exist as the combination of Ruby and Sapphire

“I will fight for the place where I’m free/to live together and exist as me”

In “Keeping It Together” She was emotionally destroyed to see what Homeworld thought of fusions and the mockery they made of it with the Gem Cluster, and it nearly made them destabilize…

and now…

In Garnet’s eyes, her own friends don’t even respect fusion. They only see it as a way to make themselves feel important and strong. Pearl and Amethyst see fusion as a means to their own end.

She feels they don’t respect fusion

She feels they don’t respect HER…

MAN this is super good and important and i love it.

to garnet, fusion is an honest, genuine, mutual union – it means the world to her. to realize that pearl had dishonest motives behind it, that it WASN’T equal or genuine, that pearl – in a way strikingly similar to the homeworld’s methods – was using it as a way to feel stronger, without considering garnet’s feelings…. yeah, god, that must hurt. it hurts so much that the only way she can feel about it is livid, without realizing what it really meant to pearl.

yes, she used garnet, and that was wrong no matter how you look at it – but she did it because of her feelings for her. she was just so desperate for that unity and wholeness and all that garnet believes fusion is for. it wasn’t really about power at all – it was about feeling safe and loved and yes, strong, but not physically, emotionally.

but as garnet said, the key to fusion is ‘get open. get honest’. and pearl didn’t. pearl exploited her emotionally, in a way that must’ve hit all the deeper after the events of keeping it together.

god, this is such a beautiful, devastating mess.
