because no matter how shit the fandom is, the show is still pretty solid and the bad fans are a minority, like most fandoms. I’m not gonna try and pull a no true scotsman fallacy and claim they aren’t true fans. I’m gonna actively call out their bullshit.

• they ruined a small business which happened to share the same name as one of the businesses in the show by leaving fake reviews in reference to the show
  
• barred the brony fandom from “joining” because they thought it would “taint” their fandom with porn (despite the fact there’s been porn since gem glow because that’s why it’s one of the rules of the internet)
  
• they harassed people to near suicide because of fucking headcanons on three separate occasions. (one time was because an artist drew rose skinny, one was because they drew one character as human and didn’t make her black and one was because they shipped pearl and mayor dewey)
  
• they harass cosplayers who don’t have “the right body type” or “the right skin tone”
• they frequently harass the writers because the writers call the bad fans out and say that people are free to have their own headcanons and interpretations and that people are free to cosplay whatever they want.
• they accused rebecca sugar of being racist because bismuth
• and most recently they harassed one of the story board artists off of twitter because she says people are free to ship whatever they want.

People are mad at the Crystal Gems for imprisoning Lapis Lazuli in her mirror, but it turns out they never did that!

In the episode, Pearl shows Steven the mirror, stating “We found this Gem powered mirror at the Galaxy Warp!”, meaning that they found Lapis in that state after the war. 

Let’s connect this to another strange Gem phenomenon, Gem Shards. When a Gem becomes cracked, they lose sentience and become mindless Gem Shards that can be used to power various items. Gem Shards so far have been stated to not have a mind or consciousness, but simply act on instinct.

Now let’s go back to Lapis: When Steven reveals that Lapis is communicating coherently through the mirror, the Crystal Gems are absolutely horrified. Why? Because they thought Lapis was a Gem Shard. They thought her Gem was completely cracked all the way through, and she therefore didn’t have a mind to suffer through thousands of years of entrapment. 

Pearl is the first to realize that a sentient being was trapped inside the mirror, even covering her mouth in shock.

Amethyst, showing an out-of-character moment of pure fear, urges Garnet to “do something”. 

The Crystal Gems had no idea Lapis was still alive. They thought she was dead and were using her Gem to power the mirror. And they were utterly terrified when they realize that Lapis has essentially been tortured for thousands of years and they did nothing to stop it.

Now, why was Lapis put in the mirror? My theory is this:

During the war, Lapis was fatally injured with a blow to the back. The healer or doctor or whatever the Gem equivalent of a nurse is decided that she was too far gone to save her and wrote her off for dead, imprisoning her in the mirror because they thought she was dead anyway.

But she wasn’t dead, she was still alive the whole time.

This is why you always double-check before you bury a corpse, people.

after seeing lapis’s backstory it becomes even more horrifying and why she had nowhere to go. she was poofed by a crystal gem and placed in the mirror by homeworld.

Homeworld thought she knew where the crystal gems were based and tried to use her. And then, when she couldn’t answer they just left her. They left her when the diamonds used their song

and while they were escaping the diamonds song, that’s when she cracked.

now why did she initially hate the crystal gems so much? well that’s easy. It’s because it was a crystal gem who poofed her and left her in that prison.

the very same gem who built a weapon to deny other gems their second chance which rose founded her army on. Bismuth attacked a civilian gem and put her through millennia of torture in addition to the breaking point.
