Corundum gems have a hierarchy based on the type they are. Sapphire are more noble than rubys, which are reserved for body guards and such. Emeralds could possibly be peasants.

If you feel offended at what Steven universe writers said, then you’re the kind of person that they’re talking about. It’s okay to have a personal preference or head canon of what someone looks like for is into, but ultimately it’s not up to you to dictate what someone else draws.
Honestly, this fandom always manages to sink lower. It really is the worst fandom I’ve ever seen. Even worse than superwholock and Homestuck.
