I know this blog is usually strictly Rooster Teeth, but I need to say something.

YouTube Red is literally fucking content creators.

You’ve probably heard some shit here and there, but don’t exactly know what’s going on. That’s why I’m making this post to inform you exactly why YouTube Red is the worst thing that’s ever happened for content creators, large or small.

Everything will be sourced, so if you don’t believe me, just click the links. I’ll be summarizing it all here anyways, so you don’t need to.

What you need to know:

Firstly, Google is FORCING YouTubers to sign with YouTube Red. 

Any “partner” creator who earns a cut of ad revenue but doesn’t agree to sign its revenue share deal for its new YouTube Red $9.99 ad-free subscription will have their videos hidden from public view on both the ad-supported and ad-free tiers. In other words, YouTube will remove all videos from your channel if you don’t agree to sign with YouTube Red. This has already happened to tons of channels, and is the first reason why YouTube Red is terrible.

Next, YouTube is already fucking over creators with low pay. Creators currently receive 55% of advertising revenue on their videos, which is way lower than similar streaming competitors like Spotify (70%) and Apple Music (71.5%). 

If you sign up for the free trial, the channels you watch will be making significantly less than they already do from you. Instead of getting money from the ad you watch before every video, they get a split portion of the $4.50 from your YouTube Red subscription. They will be splitting it based off of how many minutes of their channel you watch, which means channels with high quality short videos will be punished by channels with longer ones.

Also, $10 is a fucking ripoff for something that has been available to use for years. Nothing that YouTube Red is offering is groundbreaking or new. You can use any of the hundreds of sites online to download videos and AdBlock has existed since forever.

I don’t want to read all of that, can you recap it?

• YouTube is blackmailing channels into participating
  
  
• YouTube Red will punish creators, especially ones with shorter videos
  
  
• YouTube Red will not be paying the creators as much money as they deserve
  
  
• The price of YouTube Red is fucking absurd, when you consider that the features of it have been available for years using other sites and apps.

Now, you’re probably thinking, what can I do to combat this bullshit?

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR YOUTUBE RED. Even the free trial. We need to not support this service in any way, it’s the #1 way we can fight it.

Need to download a video for offline use? Use a different service. I Personally recommend clipconverter.cc.

If you use AdBlock, please turn it off, for the next 30 days at least. This will help our favourite channels out during all of this nonsense. I have nothing against you if you use it, however it’s the best way to help out right now.

Support your favourite creators through other means! Many channels have a Patreon you can pay them through, or have a store where they sell shirts and stuff. These are fun ways for both the channel and you to get cool stuff!

Do not trust YouTubers talking about YouTube Red. Many of them are sponsored by YouTube, and are basically being paid to tell you how good it is and why you should get it, such as Pewdiepie. You shouldn’t ever trust the opinion of someone being paid to promote something. Do your own research and form your own opinion.

No. This is not true. Literally, none of this is true.

1) Youtube is still going to exist as is. The videos will still be there and people will still post. Google music, however, is tied with youtube red. If you already pay $10 for google pLay music, then you already have youtube red. If you pay $10 for youtube red, then you automatically get google play music. But youtube is NOT deleting non youtube red videos. There will be bonus content on youtube red though for people who want to support creators. It’s similar to how daredevil is a netflix exclusive series in the marvel cinematic universe. you still have to pay for netflix to watch it.

2) 55% of all the money peopel pay for google red is going to the creators and the portion of money they get is determined by the ammount of minutes people watch them. It’s the same as how they distribute ad revenue to the content creators but you don’t see anyone complaining about that. If someone gets more views on their channel and more people watch more of their videos, then they will get more money. it’s as it’s always been.

3) The reason why they are allowing people with youtube red to not have ads and download music and videos is because USING ADBLOCK COSTS CONTENT CREATORS AND YOUTUBE MONEY AND USING THIRD PARTY SITES TO DOWNLOAD MUSIC AND VIDEOS FROM YOUTUBE IS ILLEGAL. Youtube red is just a means to allow people to do things they’ve been doing without costing the company money and completely within legal means.

people already use youtube for music which is technically illegal so youtube just wants to make a legally legit way of sharing music which is one feature. Having youtube red means you have google music automatically. Having google music means you automatically have youtube red.

Yes people already use adblock to avoid ads but that in itself makes youtube lose money so youtube is making a way to avoid ads without losing money. They are a company and are looking to make money which isn’t inherently bad. Companies go out of business without money.

Exclusive content. Content creators can make exclusive youtube red content. It’s going to be BONUS content. Like an exclusive series and such. You don’t see people complaining about dare devil being netflix exclusive while agents of shield is on TV.

CONTENT CREATORS WILL GET 55% OF THE MONEY THAT PEOPLE PAY FOR YOUTUBE RED. THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE 55% WILL BE THE SAME AS THE DISTRIBUTION OF ADVERTISEMENT REVENUE OF VANILLA YOUTUBE WHICH IS ALSO 55%

THE RATIO OF MINUTES PEOPLE WATCH YOUR VIDEOS AND THE MINUTES PEOPLE WATCH YOUTUBE RED TOTAL WILL DICTATE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU GET FROM IT. THE REASON IT’S GOOD FOR BIG CHANNELS IS BECAUSE MORE PEOPLE WATCH THEIR VIDEOS THAN SMALL CHANNELS. 

It would be unfair to the people with millions of subscribers for them to lose their money to people with only a dozen of subscribers. Basically the more people like your stuff, the more money you will get which is how it should be.

and if enough people have monthly subsciptions and buy their merch that a content creator can do something like buy a $4.5 million home, they have every right to do so. It isn’t problematic for someone to use their main source of income to buy luxurious living arrangements or for them to  have a happy life because of their subscribers. If anything, it’s a thing to be happy about. the subscribers, every single one of them, made that possible. People who subscribe and buy merch do so of their own money and free will. Content creators aren’t stealing from their fanbase by spending the money they earn. people who give money to content creators do so to help support them. Don’t get mad at someone for having a large enough fanbase to live comfortably.

All these people complaing about Jordan don’t realise that he started with nothing. Before his channel started he had high plans for education but dropped out from depression and other personal reasons.

He worked hard at his channel and has always tried to make himself a good role model. The media always focuses on the money of the situation - not the struggle beforehand. Most YouTubers didn’t expect to get money, their just sharing what they love doing most, which is playing video games.
Like, are we not going to talk about KSI?? He bought a mason at the top a skyscraper, and is having a swimming pool AIR LIFTED BY HELICOPTER onto his open terrace.
Pewdiepie? Everyone complains about how much money he earns - he gives most of it to charity because he almost feels bad for having so much money he doesn’t really need.

No one gives media attention to the dark side. In Korea, players are literally farmed like battery chickens to be a great e-sports players for League of Legends. One man jumps off a 20-something story building when he realised the truth. Thank heavens something broke his fall and he lived..only just though.

Jordan is living his dream, but he worked his ass off for it. Everyone complaing they work their asses off too but can’t by 4.3millon mansion. Well neither could he 3 years ago!

Take it as a fucking message. Don’t take it the wrong way and sob in jealousy - take it as an insperation and keep working hard, because you will get there too some day. Perseverance will get you anywhere.

Essentially it says if people treat youtube as legitimate entertainment, medias will lose a lot of money. I think that’s part of the reason people refuse to acknowledge him as a celeberty and the other part is that people are jealous that they aren’t charismatic enough to run a successful youtube channel. I jsut hope that jardon buying this house will help people realize that youtube is a legit source of entertainment.

I am watching vanoss’s old videos and there’s refrerences to stuff like gangnam and trolololo and then I see the date of the video and it’s like 2012 and I keep wanting to think that those things aren’t 3 years old already and then I watched the very first video on youtube and it is gonna be 10 yrs old in april and I don’t know why but I keep wanting to think the world isn’t going by as fast as it is. Hell, pokemon is gonna be 20 this year.
